Smith River Photos!
Located an hour southwest of Roanoke, the upper Smith River is a real treat. A narrow , shallow gorge with very
little sign of human disturbance. Once you slip in at the Route 704 bridge, there is not another take out for
16 miles in the Philpott Reservior. The only super scary rapid is White Falls, named after the quartz outcrop it drops over.
